A Flourishing Spice Venture in Jammu and Kashmir
Abhilasha Salaria, a woman entrepreneur from Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir, has successfully launched a spice production business. With the assistance of a government horticulture scheme, she has elevated her organic spice venture, 'Salaria Food and Spices', to significant heights.
Connecting with Farmers and Creating Jobs for Local Women
Abhilasha shares that she purchases local crops such as turmeric, garlic, and ginger directly from farmers. These ingredients are then processed in her unit to create a variety of exquisite spice blends, including tikki masala. Notably, she employs local women who are unable to work far from home, encouraging them to take advantage of government schemes to combat unemployment.
Boost from the One District One Product Scheme
Rohit Salaria, Abhilasha's husband, mentioned that Udhampur district has been selected under the 'One District One Product' initiative for garlic. This scheme enables them to produce garlic pickles and garlic powder on a large scale. Additionally, they process and prepare Kashmiri tikki masala, garam masala, meat masala, rajma masala, and local chili spices.
Support from the Government and Expanding Market Opportunities
Rohit further explained that their business has received substantial support from the Indian government's horticulture and marketing departments. The government has provided excellent opportunities for showcasing their products in various sectors and connecting directly with major buyers.
