Heartfelt Incident at Kanpur Collectorate

During a public hearing at the Kanpur Collectorate on Saturday, a touching incident unfolded involving a 76-year-old woman named Saraswati Devi. She approached District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh with folded hands, tears streaming down her face. The elderly woman revealed that her daughter, Premshanti, had physically assaulted her and forced her out of their home.

A Mother's Plea for Help

Saraswati expressed her despair, stating, 'My daughter has taken over the house and has left me to live on the streets. Where can I go now?' Her emotional plea resonated with the DM and the officials present, prompting immediate action.

Panchayat Meeting Lasting Two Hours

Following the DM's orders, Joint Magistrate and Sub-Divisional Officer Anubhav Singh, along with revenue and police teams, promptly visited Dool village to assess the situation. Upon arrival, they were joined by the Naib Tehsildar, Lekhpal, village head, and several respected locals. A detailed panchayat meeting was held for two hours, bringing both mother and daughter together for discussion.

Daughter's Return to Parental Home

The panchayat revealed ongoing tension between the mother and daughter. Saraswati expressed her desire to live peacefully in her remaining years, while Premshanti explained that she had returned to her parental home after facing harassment in her in-laws' house. She denied the allegations of violence against her mother and mentioned that she would return to her in-laws after her marriage.

Community Mediation Leads to Reconciliation

After extensive discussions, the villagers and administrative team facilitated a reconciliation between the two parties. Ultimately, Premshanti apologized to her mother, promising to change her behavior. Saraswati was allowed to return fully to her home. The district administration took this matter seriously, with the Sub-Divisional Officer instructing the Lekhpal and police station in-charge to monitor Saraswati regularly. Any future complaints of disputes or mistreatment would result in immediate legal action.
