Musk's Departure from Government Role

In an unexpected move, Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of SpaceX, announced on Thursday that he has concluded his role as a Special Government Employee. He expressed gratitude towards President Donald Trump for the opportunity. In a post on X, Musk emphasized that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will continue to evolve positively over time, indicating his exit from the Trump administration. He mentioned that as the mission advances, it will become integral to government operations.

Musk stated on X, "As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President Donald Trump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government."

Musk's Critique of Trump's Legislative Agenda

Earlier in the week, Musk voiced his concerns regarding a significant aspect of Trump's legislative agenda, which he labeled as the president's 'big beautiful bill.' This proposal included tax reductions and stricter immigration policies. In an interview with CBS, Musk remarked, "I think a bill can be big or it could be beautiful. But I don’t know if it could be both." He argued that the bill would increase the federal deficit and hinder the objectives of DOGE, the department he led.

In contrast, Trump expressed satisfaction with certain elements of the bill while defending his agenda. During a statement in the Oval Office, he noted, "I am not happy about certain aspects of it, but I’m thrilled by other aspects of it." The bill has recently passed in the House and is now under consideration in the Senate.
