Eleven Arrested in Assam and Tripura for Alleged Ties to Bangladesh Extremist Groups
Significant Arrests Linked to Extremism
Guwahati: Authorities in Assam and Tripura have detained eleven individuals suspected of having connections with extremist groups based in Bangladesh, according to police reports released on Tuesday.
During a press briefing, Police Commissioner Parthasarathi Mahanta of Guwahati stated that the Special Task Force (STF) conducted the arrests based on intelligence gathered from central agencies.
The operation took place overnight across Barpeta, Chirang, and Darrang districts in Assam, as well as in Tripura. A total of eleven individuals identified as jihadi operatives were apprehended, allegedly acting under directives from groups in Bangladesh.
The arrested individuals are reportedly affiliated with the newly established Indian Mujahideen-K.
Mahanta noted, "Ten of the suspects were captured in Assam, while one was taken into custody in Tripura. Their objective was to create instability in Assam and the broader Northeast region, aiming to promote 'Muslim supremacy' in this area of the country."
