Fresh Elections Ordered for Falta Assembly

New Delhi: In an unusual decision, the Election Commission (EC) announced on Saturday that a "fresh" election will be held across all 285 polling stations in the Falta Assembly constituency in West Bengal on May 21, citing a "subversion of the democratic process."

According to a representative from the election body, the vote counting for this constituency is set for May 24.

It is uncommon for the Election Commission to mandate a complete re-election for an entire Assembly seat.

Earlier on Friday, the EC had also called for re-elections in 15 polling stations across two other Assembly constituencies in West Bengal—Diamond Harbour and Magarhat Paschim.

The West Bengal Assembly elections took place in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with the counting for the remaining seats scheduled for May 4.
