Efforts Underway for Safe Return of Indians Amid Middle East Conflict
Union Minister Addresses Stranded Indians
Chikkamagaluru/New Delhi, Mar 1: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi stated on Sunday that the government is actively working to facilitate the safe return of Indians caught in the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East, which he described as "volatile".
During a press conference at Rambhapuri Mutt in Karnataka's Chikkamagaluru, Joshi mentioned that he would discuss the situation with relevant authorities in New Delhi.
"The circumstances there are quite challenging. I have been informed that individuals from Karnataka are currently stranded," Joshi remarked.
He emphasized that the government is vigilantly observing the situation, adding, "I will head to Delhi today to engage with the appropriate ministers. We are committed to ensuring the safe return of our citizens there."
Reflecting on previous evacuation efforts, he noted, "During the conflicts under the Modi administration, we successfully repatriated everyone."
He warned that the conditions in the region remain precarious. "At present, the situation is tumultuous. Even air travel there poses significant risks. Our ongoing efforts are focused on safely bringing back those affected," Joshi stated.
In a contrasting view, the Congress party criticized the government's handling of the conflict involving Iran, claiming it undermines India's core values and interests. They asserted that the nation is suffering due to the approach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign policy.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh criticized Modi's recent visit to Israel, which occurred just before the onset of military actions against Iran. He described the Prime Minister's address to the Knesset as a display of moral cowardice.
Ramesh stated, "The Modi administration's reaction to the conflict in Iran, which has included targeted attacks, represents a betrayal of India's principles and concerns."
His comments followed the reported death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in an airstrike attributed to Israel and the United States.
In his social media commentary, Ramesh further criticized the Modi government's foreign policy, highlighting the US President's ongoing support for Pakistan amidst tensions in the region.
On Saturday, the Congress party condemned the military actions against Iran by the US and Israel, urging the Indian government to work towards de-escalation and ensure the safety of all Indians in the Middle East.
The opposition party expressed deep concern regarding the rising hostilities in the area and called for measures to protect Indian citizens residing there.
