Education Minister Demands Resignation of Punjab CM Over Controversial Video
Call for Resignation Amid Controversy
On Thursday, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to resign following the emergence of a controversial video. Pradhan emphasized that no one has the right to disrespect Sikh Gurus, stating, "This is a matter of faith. We hold our Gurus in the highest regard. No one should be allowed to insult them. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has disrespected them, and he must face the consequences of his actions. Morally, he should step down."
Background of the Controversy
Pradhan made these remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event commemorating the 51st anniversary of the Emergency. The political uproar stems from a controversial video that led the highest Sikh religious authority, Akal Takht, to issue an order against Mann on June 15. The issue dates back to January when Mann was summoned by Akal Takht for allegedly making inappropriate comments regarding the 'Guru Ki Golak' (donation box at the Gurudwara) and for purportedly participating in 'objectionable activities' alongside images of Sikh Gurus and slain militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in a video clip.
Legal Actions Taken
In connection with this viral video controversy, Haryana police arrested two individuals on Tuesday for allegedly obtaining a fake forensic report related to the case.
