ED Interrogates TMC MLA Madan Mitra's Wife in Recruitment Scam Investigation
Investigation into Alleged Municipal Recruitment Scam
Kolkata, July 24 - The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted an interrogation of Archana Mitra, the wife of Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra, on Friday as part of a money laundering investigation linked to an alleged municipal recruitment scam. An official confirmed this information.
Archana, accompanied by her younger son Shubharup Mitra, arrived at the ED office located in the CGO Complex around 11 AM. Prior to entering the agency's premises, she declined to speak with the media.
According to ED officials, investigators are reviewing documents that Archana Mitra was asked to present during the inquiry. An ED official stated, “The investigation is focused on tracing financial transactions and verifying whether the proceeds from the alleged illegal recruitment were deposited into accounts linked to beneficiaries or their associates.”
As part of the investigation, financial documents, including bank records, are being scrutinized. Earlier this week, the central agency had also questioned both of Archana's sons. The ED official mentioned, “The purpose of the questioning is to validate the documentary evidence collected during the investigation. Summons have been issued to all individuals whose roles or financial transactions need to be confirmed.”
The ED is looking into allegations that around 125 appointments in the Titagarh municipality of North 24 Parganas district were made in exchange for money.
During the investigation, the agency uncovered the alleged involvement of MLA Madan Mitra, leading to searches at several locations associated with him, including his residence and office. The central agency has previously interrogated Madan Mitra in connection with this case.
