Details of the Incident


According to reports, the incident occurred on September 5, 2021. Biplab Parida, an assistant manager at a state-run bank, lived with his wife Ipsa Priyadarshini in a rented accommodation in the Arda area. Biplab hailed from Odisha, while Ipsa was from Cuttack. The couple had married in 2019. It has been revealed that they frequently argued over various issues since their marriage. On the night of the incident, a dispute escalated between them, leading Biplab to allegedly strangle his wife with their pet dog's leash in a fit of rage.


Husband Surrendered to Police


After committing the crime, the accused husband rode his motorcycle to the Kanksa police station and surrendered, confessing to his actions. Police later discovered Ipsa's body on the floor of their home. Following a thorough investigation, witness testimonies, and hearings, the Durgapur district court convicted the accused, sentencing him to life imprisonment and imposing a fine. The prosecution, represented by government lawyer Shrabani Sarkar, noted that the trial commenced on September 6, 2021.
