Dubai Royals Clinch Title in Inaugural World Legends Pro T20 League
Exciting Finale in Goa
The inaugural World Legends Pro T20 League concluded in Goa with an exhilarating final, where the Dubai Royals emerged victorious, defeating the Pune Panthers by 8 wickets. This triumph was marked by a remarkable performance from the Royals, who peaked at the right moment in the tournament.
Pune Panthers Set a Strong Target
After winning the toss, the Pune Panthers chose to bat first. The Dubai Royals responded by employing spin bowlers Samit Patel and Parvez Rasool from both ends. However, this strategy did not hinder the Panthers' openers, who formed a robust 100-run partnership. Upul Tharanga played a pivotal role, scoring a steady 55 runs before Rasool claimed the first wicket for Dubai. Piyush Chawla then made a significant impact, taking two wickets, including that of the in-form Martin Guptill, who scored 62, and dismissing captain Kieron Pollard cheaply. Shane Watson capped off the innings with an explosive half-century off just 24 balls, leading the Panthers to a formidable total of 194/4 after 20 overs.
Royals' Chase Seals the Victory
In pursuit of a challenging target, the Dubai Royals began their innings steadily. Manvinder Bisla was instrumental, contributing a fluent half-century. Meanwhile, captain Shikhar Dhawan, who had been in exceptional form throughout the tournament, added another fifty to his tally. Dhawan was eventually dismissed for 64 runs, with DJ Bravo taking the crucial wicket for the Panthers. Bisla soon followed him back to the pavilion, but Samit Patel and Ambati Rayudu formed a vital partnership of 50 runs, guiding the Dubai Royals to a comfortable victory and making them the first champions of the World Legends Pro T20 League.
