Drone Attack in Oman Claims Lives of Two Indians Amid Regional Tensions
Tragic Incident in Sohar Province
On Friday, a drone strike in Sohar province, Oman, resulted in the deaths of two Indian nationals and left ten others injured, as reported by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Aseem Mahajan, the Additional Secretary for Gulf Affairs, stated that five of the injured individuals have been released from the hospital, while the others continue to receive medical care. Additionally, one non-Indian was among the injured.
Indian officials are actively coordinating with their Omani counterparts to provide support to the affected citizens.
According to Oman's state news agency, two drones crashed in Sohar on Friday morning. One drone hit the Al-Awahi industrial zone, leading to the fatalities and injuries, while the second drone landed in an unpopulated area without causing harm.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the drone attack, but there has been no indication of who may have launched the drones.
Earlier this week, reports emerged of drones targeting fuel storage tanks at Salalah port, although Tehran has denied any involvement in that incident.
The ongoing conflict in West Asia escalated on February 28, following a military strike by the United States and Israel against the Iranian government. In response, Iran has retaliated with missile and drone attacks on various Gulf targets, including US military bases and civilian areas.
Israel has expressed concerns that Iran is nearing the capability to develop a nuclear weapon, which could significantly disrupt the security dynamics in the region. Iran, however, insists that its nuclear ambitions are solely for peaceful purposes.
