Udhayanidhi Stalin, a prominent figure in the DMK party, has come under intense scrutiny following a controversial statement he made during a protest rally in Thanjavur regarding the Cauvery issue. A video from the event has gone viral, showcasing him making what many perceive as double entendre remarks involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and actress Trisha. In the wake of these comments, both the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have launched strong criticisms against the DMK.

Reactions from Political Rivals

TVK legislator Revant Charan condemned Udhayanidhi's remarks as "disgusting" and unacceptable, accusing the DMK leadership of lowering political discourse and inciting provocations. During the rally, while criticizing Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, chants of "Trisha, Trisha" could be heard. Udhayanidhi was recorded saying, "Not a single drop of water from the Cauvery has reached us. But has the Chief Minister said anything about it? No, he is only concerned about filing false cases against the DMK."

Controversial Comments and Their Implications

As the chants continued, Udhayanidhi paused and smiled before making a comment that many interpreted as a reference to actress Trisha, especially given the ongoing speculation about their relationship on social media. He remarked, "Whether the water reaches elsewhere or not, it should reach here," clarifying that he was indeed referring to the Cauvery.

Charan further criticized the DMK's political culture, stating that such comments reflect a decline in standards. He warned that the party's arrogance and misconduct would diminish its significance among the public, asserting, "This is why the people of Tamil Nadu have rejected you, confining you to your current state."

BJP Joins the Criticism

The Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP also condemned Udhayanidhi's remarks, labeling them as "disgusting, vulgar, and shameful." State BJP spokesperson Narayanan Tirupati criticized former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for his silence on the issue and called for Udhayanidhi's arrest, arguing that legal action would enhance Chief Minister Vijay's credibility.

TVK Demands Action from Women's Commission

In response to the remarks, the ruling party has written to the National Commission for Women (NCW), demanding action against Udhayanidhi. TVK described the comments as "extremely disturbing," asserting that such language normalizes the objectification of women in public spaces and undermines the expected decorum from public figures. They urged the NCW to formally acknowledge the speech and rally footage, seeking clarification and an unconditional public apology from the DMK leader.
