Bengaluru, May 30: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has officially announced that D.K. Shivakumar will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka on June 3 at the Glass House located in Lok Bhavan.
This announcement precedes the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday.
During a joint emergency press conference held at the party office, G.C. Chandrashekar, KPCC Working President and Rajya Sabha member, stated that the event will be kept modest to avoid causing any inconvenience to the public.
Chandrashekar highlighted the popularity of the welfare guarantee schemes initiated under Siddaramaiah's leadership, expressing the party's hope that Shivakumar will continue these beneficial initiatives. He emphasized the decision to maintain a simple swearing-in ceremony.
"There has been considerable media speculation regarding the swearing-in ceremony. The party has confirmed that D.K. Shivakumar will take the oath on June 3 at the Glass House in Raj Bhavan," Chandrashekar stated.
Supporters of Shivakumar had planned to arrange around 1,000 buses to transport attendees to Bengaluru for the ceremony. However, the party opted against large-scale mobilization, considering that June 3 falls on a working day.
"Given that it is a working day, we want to ensure that residents of Bengaluru do not face any inconvenience. The ceremony should not be extravagant but rather a simple event that reflects our commitment to public service. Therefore, we have instructed party workers and supporters to refrain from organizing large gatherings," he added.
Chandrashekar urged Congress workers and Shivakumar's supporters statewide not to travel to Bengaluru for the event.
"We kindly ask party workers and Shivakumar's admirers not to come to Bengaluru for the swearing-in ceremony. Your cooperation is essential to ensure that normal life is not disrupted, and the event serves as a model for simplicity and public appreciation," he remarked.
After taking the oath, Shivakumar plans to tour Karnataka, meeting with party workers and the public in their respective districts.
"Once he assumes office, the Chief Minister will visit district headquarters across the state to seek the blessings of the people and party workers. Since he will be visiting your districts, there is no need to come to Bengaluru for the swearing-in ceremony," Chandrashekar explained.
He also clarified that no passes would be issued to party workers for the event and urged supporters to avoid causing any disturbances.
"This is a request from the party to all supporters and workers. We expect no disruptions. We discussed this proposal with D.K. Shivakumar, and he fully supports it," he stated.
Chandrashekar also reflected on the achievements of the Congress government under Siddaramaiah, expressing the party's expectation that Shivakumar will continue the welfare programs initiated during the previous administration.
"In the past three years, Siddaramaiah's government has rolled out several popular initiatives. Our goal is to ensure these programs persist under Shivakumar's leadership," he concluded.
Regarding the formation of the new cabinet, Chandrashekar mentioned that no decisions have been made about the number of ministers who will be sworn in alongside the Chief Minister.
"After Shivakumar is elected as the Congress Legislature Party leader and Siddaramaiah formally hands over leadership, the party will determine the new cabinet's composition. Discussions about the number of ministers taking the oath have not yet occurred. There is still time before the swearing-in ceremony, and we will adhere to the party's decisions," he added.
