Discord Faces Major Outage Affecting Thousands of Users

Widespread Issues on Discord


On Friday afternoon, Discord encountered significant problems, with a large number of users reporting difficulties accessing the messaging service. Downdetector indicated that nearly 60,000 outage reports were submitted just before 4 p.m. ET on May 8. The surge in complaints started around 2:45 p.m. ET, predominantly from major cities like New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle.


Users experienced various issues, including trouble logging in, sending messages, connecting to servers, and using voice chat features. Many reported unexpected disconnections from servers, and errors were prevalent throughout the application.


As the number of complaints increased, Discord acknowledged the situation on social media, stating: “WORKING ON IT.” In a separate message to a user, the company expressed its apologies, saying: “HAVI WE ARE SO SORRY TO LET YOU DOWN. WORKING ON THE PARTS WE CAN CONTROL AND MAKING SURE YOU DONT GET SO MANY INTERRUPTIONS IN THE FUTURE.” The specific reason for the outage has not yet been revealed, but Discord's team is actively working to restore normal functionality.
