Diljit Dosanjh Faces Threats Amid Global Tour Over Khalistani Protests
Threats Loom Over Diljit Dosanjh's 'Aura 2026' Tour
Chandigarh: Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh's ongoing global tour, 'Aura 2026', has come under fire from Khalistani extremists. Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, a declared terrorist and leader of 'Sikh for Justice', has issued a direct threat to the artist. In a video message, Pannu warned Dosanjh that after facing protests in Canada, he should brace for even more intense opposition during his upcoming performances in the United States. This confrontation escalated following Dosanjh's concerts in Vancouver and Calgary, where he encountered Khalistani supporters attempting to disrupt his shows with flags and anti-India slogans.
Dosanjh had previously reacted strongly to the display of Khalistani posters during his performances. In his message, Pannu criticized Dosanjh's patriotic slogan 'Mera Bharat Mahan' and his earlier respect for actor Amitabh Bachchan. Referring to Dosanjh as 'Indian Dosanjh', Pannu claimed that the artist's integrity died the day he honored Bachchan, whom the extremist group associates with the 1984 riots. During his Calgary show on April 30, Dosanjh firmly stated that he would not tolerate anyone ruining the concert atmosphere, which included families and elderly attendees.
In response to the disruptions, Dosanjh made it clear that anyone causing a ruckus would be removed from the venue. Pannu reacted with a chilling warning, stating that while protesters had only shown 'flags' so far, they would soon come armed with 'sticks'. He further asserted that Dosanjh's 'arrogance' would ultimately lead to his downfall among Indians living in Western countries. Supporting his stance, Dosanjh emphasized that he has consistently used international platforms to represent Punjab and its issues. He reminded critics that he spent months on the ground assisting flood victims in Punjab, even canceling professional commitments like his Australia tour.
The singer expressed pride in his national identity and vowed not to be intimidated by those attempting to disrupt his events. This controversy began on April 23 in Vancouver when security personnel had to remove a group of protesters chanting anti-India slogans and clashing with security guards. Since then, Khalistani elements have labeled Dosanjh as a supporter of the Indian government and the RSS-BJP alliance, using this narrative to justify their attempts to disrupt his world tour. Reports indicate that security agencies are monitoring the situation as the singer prepares for his upcoming tour in the United States.
