Dilip Mahadu Gavit's Ambitious Goals

Dilip Mahadu Gavit, a gold medalist from the Commonwealth Games, is focused on securing two gold medals at the forthcoming Asian Para Games. He expressed his determination to enhance his performance compared to the previous edition.

At the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Gavit clinched the gold in the men's 100m T47 event, setting a Games record with a time of 10.71 seconds. He is set to compete in both the 100m and 400m races at the Asian Para Games.

Determination to Win

"I only participated in the 100 meters during the Commonwealth Games, but I will compete in both the 100 meters and 400 meters at the Asian Para Games. My coach is training me for both events. I aim to win the gold medal and raise the Indian flag high," Gavit shared during the felicitation ceremony hosted by SBI Life Insurance in New Delhi.

Expressing gratitude for the recognition from SBI Life Insurance, he added, "I am thrilled to be here and honored to be celebrated alongside other medalists."

Inspiration from Usain Bolt

Gavit also mentioned his admiration for Usain Bolt, the legendary Jamaican sprinter, stating, "He runs exceptionally well, and I often watch his videos for motivation. I particularly enjoy the 100 meters, as it is a quick race, unlike the 400 meters, which requires more mental focus."

Historic Achievement

At the 2023 Asian Para Games, Gavit made history by winning the men's 400m T47 event, marking India's 100th medal at the multi-sport event. "That 100th medal was mine, and I am determined to perform even better this time. I won one gold last time, but this time I aim for two," he stated.

Support from Fellow Athletes

Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath, another T47 sprinter who secured silver in the men's 100m event in Glasgow, also attended the ceremony. He expressed his happiness about SBI Life's support for para-sports, saying, "This is my first event with SBI Life, and I hope we receive continued support for all athletes."

As Basil prepares for his first Asian Games, he is optimistic about improving his performance in Japan, stating, "I am working hard to achieve better timings. I hope everyone excels at the Games."

Recognition of Para-Athletes

SBI Life Insurance, in collaboration with the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), honored India's para-athletes who earned seven medals at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, including three gold, two silver, and two bronze. The event was attended by SBI Life Insurance MD and CEO Amit Jhingran and PCI president Devendra Jhajharia. Other medalists recognized included Sharmila Dhankar, Soman Rana, Shubham Juyal, Shilpa Shyla, and Jhandu Kumar.
