Did Central Forces Cause a Voter's Death in West Bengal Elections? TMC's Abhishek Banerjee Claims Assault
Allegations of Violence During West Bengal Elections
Kolkata: On Wednesday, prominent TMC figure Abhishek Banerjee accused central forces of being responsible for the death of an elderly voter in Howrah district during the second phase of the West Bengal assembly elections.
In a passionate post on X, Banerjee claimed that the central forces were acting as a private army for the BJP, intimidating voters.
He recounted an incident in Udaynarayanpur where an elderly man, who was attempting to vote with his son, collapsed after allegedly being pushed and assaulted by central forces while his son was assisting him to enter the polling booth.
Banerjee stated that the elderly man was taken to Amta Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The Diamond Harbour MP further alleged that throughout the day, central forces had been seen slapping women, attacking the elderly, and even confronting children, drawing parallels to the violent events of Sitalkuchi in 2021.
He referenced the Sitalkuchi firing incident, asserting that the BJP faced political repercussions then and would encounter even greater consequences in the upcoming 2026 elections.
Banerjee also warned that those responsible for the alleged misconduct would be held accountable under the law.
As of now, there has been no response from the BJP, central forces, or the Election Commission regarding these serious allegations.
