Dhubri Police Uncover Drug Operation and Counterfeit Currency in Pharmacy Raid

Dhubri, Aug. 11: In a significant operation, Dhubri Police confiscated a substantial amount of suspected narcotics, counterfeit Indian currency, and a firearm-like object during a raid on an unauthorized pharmacy in Kalapkani Part-II early Tuesday morning.

The operator of the pharmacy, Eliyas Sarkar, son of Hamed Mollah and a resident of Kalapkani Part-II, was taken into custody.

Authorities indicated that Sarkar was allegedly utilizing the unlicensed medical shop to store narcotic substances and was suspected of engaging in drug-related activities within Dhubri and nearby regions.

The raid was initiated by a team from Dhubri Police Station after receiving tips about illegal activities at the pharmacy, which is situated across the Brahmaputra in Bhogdahar Gaon Panchayat, according to officials.

During the operation, police discovered 1,709 tablets of suspected narcotics, including 672 Pyeevon Spas Plus tablets weighing approximately 383 grams, 15 Xedex tablets, 260 Nitcor-10 tablets weighing around 145.6 grams, and 150 suspected Yaba tablets weighing about 25.5 grams.

Additionally, authorities seized 15 bottles of prohibited cough syrup and counterfeit Indian currency notes totaling Rs 5,600, which included four Rs 500 notes and 18 Rs 200 notes.

An air gun and a mobile device were also confiscated during the raid.

Residents in the area claimed that the pharmacy had been operational for an extended period and was allegedly a hub for drug-related and other illicit activities. These claims are currently under investigation.

Police have detained Sarkar for questioning to determine the origins of the narcotics, the distribution of the counterfeit currency, and whether additional individuals were involved.

A case has been filed under the appropriate legal provisions, and further inquiries are ongoing, according to police reports.
