Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel highlighted that the pitch in Galle can shift quickly due to weather conditions. He noted that when the covers are on, the moisture makes the pitch more favorable, while sunny spells can dry it out. Drawing from his experiences during the India A tour, he emphasized the importance of adaptability and hard work as the Test match unfolds. Jurel shared these insights with reporters following Day 2 of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka in Galle on Sunday.

"From my observations, even in the India A matches, this wicket changes rapidly, influenced by the weather," he remarked. "When the covers are on, moisture builds up, but when the sun shines, it dries out. This will continue to evolve as the Test progresses. We just need to keep putting in the effort," Jurel stated, according to Cricinfo.

Jurel's Vital Half-Century

Jurel made a significant impact by scoring 51 runs off 68 balls, including four fours and a six. His innings was crucial for India's first innings in the opening Test against Sri Lanka. Together with Devdutt Padikkal's impressive score of over 150, Jurel's contribution helped India reach a total of 460/9 by the end of Day 2. Additionally, he formed a noteworthy 55-run partnership for the seventh wicket with young spinner Manav Suthar.

'Need to Take 20 Wickets to Win'

Jurel also stressed the importance of discipline and consistency for India's bowlers, urging them to bowl long spells and target the right areas. He emphasized a straightforward and determined approach, stating that to secure a victory in the Test, India must take all 20 wickets. "We will need to bowl long spells, similar to what their bowlers have been doing. Consistency is key. It’s not complicated; we just need to place the balls in the right areas. Keeping it simple and focused is essential. To win, we must take 20 wickets," he concluded.
