Devastating Night: Russia's Aerial Assault on Ukraine Claims 16 Lives
Major Attack on Ukrainian Civilians
In a significant escalation, Russia targeted civilian locations in Ukraine with a barrage of drones and missiles overnight, resulting in the deaths of at least 16 individuals and injuring over 80, marking the most intense aerial attack in nearly two weeks, according to officials on Thursday.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, reported that nearly 700 drones and numerous ballistic and cruise missiles were launched, with a primary focus on civilian areas.
Among the casualties, four people lost their lives in Kyiv, including a 12-year-old child, while more than 50 others sustained injuries, as stated by Sybiha.
The southern port city of Odesa witnessed nine fatalities and 23 injuries, while three individuals were killed and around 30 were hurt in the central Dnipro region. Additionally, one person died in Zaporizhzhia in the south.
Sybiha condemned the attacks, stating, "Such actions cannot be normalized. These are war crimes that must be halted, and those responsible must be held accountable."
Ukraine's air force reported that their defenses successfully intercepted or neutralized 667 out of 703 incoming threats, which included 636 Shahed-type drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles.
