Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri recently embarked on a comprehensive tour of rural regions within the Chamba Assembly constituency, where he inaugurated and laid the groundwork for development initiatives totaling nearly ₹23 crore. These projects, which focus on drinking water, irrigation, and fire safety, demonstrate the government's dedication to enhancing infrastructure and addressing the needs of local communities.

Commitment to Rural Development

During his visit, Agnihotri highlighted that 'India lives in its villages,' emphasizing the government's priority of engaging directly with rural populations to understand and resolve their issues. His arrival was met with warm welcomes from local residents, who expressed appreciation for the government's proactive measures.

Enhancing Fire Safety in Chamba

A significant project initiated was the fire safety enhancement initiative for Chamba town, allocated a budget of ₹6.91 crore. The foundation stone was laid to improve firefighting capabilities, ensuring better readiness for emergencies. Agnihotri pointed out the necessity for strong fire safety measures in urban areas like Chamba, particularly due to the town's increasing population and historical buildings.

Improving Drinking Water Access

Agnihotri also inaugurated the Sanch-Parel-Sultanpur drinking water augmentation scheme, which was developed at a cost of ₹8.52 crore. This initiative aims to provide clean and consistent drinking water to approximately 10,000 residents of the Gram Panchayats Sanch and Draman. The Deputy Chief Minister reaffirmed that access to safe drinking water is a fundamental right and pledged ongoing efforts to enhance water security throughout Himachal Pradesh.

Irrigation Initiatives for Agricultural Advancement

Two major irrigation projects were launched during the visit:

• Bhalla-Tipri-Chalera irrigation scheme (₹1.68 crore), benefiting 42.30 hectares of farmland.


• Remodeling of Saho irrigation scheme (₹5.94 crore), aimed at providing irrigation to 76.45 hectares of land.

Agnihotri emphasized the importance of irrigation for sustaining agriculture in hilly areas, where farmers rely heavily on timely water supply. He assured that these projects would enhance productivity and improve livelihoods.

Support for Flash Flood Victims in Obri

During his tour, Agnihotri visited Obri village, which had recently suffered from flash floods. He met with affected families, evaluated the damages, and instructed officials to expedite relief and rehabilitation efforts. Acknowledging the urgency, he announced a special assistance package of ₹50 lakh for rehabilitation initiatives.

Agnihotri stated that aiding disaster-affected communities is the government's top priority and committed to providing all necessary support to the impacted families.

New Water Sub-Division at Saho

In a notable development, Agnihotri declared the establishment of a new Water Resources Department sub-division at Saho, addressing a long-standing demand from the local community. He explained that this new sub-division would enhance the operation and maintenance of water supply schemes, ensuring timely resolution of complaints.

He instructed officials to remain available in Saho throughout the day to address grievances promptly. 'There will be no shortage of funds for drinking water schemes,' he assured, reinforcing the government's commitment to rural welfare.

Agnihotri's Vision for Rural India

Speaking to gatherings in Sanch, Bhalla, and Saho, Agnihotri reiterated that the strength of India lies in its villages. He stressed the importance of leaders visiting rural areas to grasp the challenges faced by the populace. 'Development cannot be limited to offices; it must reach the villages where people live and work,' he stated.

He urged officials to align their efforts with public expectations, advocating for a people-centric approach. Additionally, he instructed the Transport Department to prioritize bus services in areas where residents seek better connectivity, thereby enhancing trust in the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC).

Expansion of Electric Bus Fleet

Agnihotri announced the addition of 297 new electric buses to the HRTC fleet. Diesel buses currently operating on routes designated for electric buses will be reassigned to underserved rural areas, ensuring broader transport access. This initiative reflects the government's commitment to sustainability and accessibility.

Community Engagement and Appreciation

Local MLA Neeraj Nayyar expressed gratitude to the Deputy Chief Minister for directly bringing development projects to villages. He remarked that such initiatives strengthen the relationship between the government and its citizens.

The event saw participation from various dignitaries, including former minister Asha Kumari, Bharti Nayyar, Zila Parishad Vice President Liaqat Ali, and local residents, showcasing the community's enthusiasm for development.
