Demand for Dismissal of MP Minister Over Controversial Comments on Colonel Sofia Qureshi
Congress Leaders Call for Minister's Resignation
A delegation of Congress leaders met with Governor Mangubhai Patel in Bhopal, urging the dismissal of Madhya Pradesh Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah due to his remarks about Colonel Sofia Qureshi. Following their meeting with the governor, the leaders staged a protest outside the Raj Bhavan. Jayvardhan Singh, the Vice President of the Madhya Pradesh Congress and a legislator, expressed his dismay, stating that it is disgraceful for such comments to come from a minister. He emphasized that merely apologizing is insufficient. If the BJP holds any moral standing and respects the armed forces, they should immediately remove the minister from his position.
Minister Defends His Statements
Earlier, Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav defended Vijay Shah's comments, asserting that the government adheres to court orders. He questioned why Congress does not demand resignations from leaders like Siddaramaiah, who have faced legal issues. Vijay Shah had previously apologized for his inappropriate remarks about Colonel Sofia Qureshi during a speech.
Legal Actions and Reactions
Vijay Shah stated that Colonel Sofia Qureshi is like a sister to him and expressed regret if his words caused any offense. Samajwadi Party MP Avadhesh Prasad criticized Shah's comments, claiming they insulted not only Colonel Qureshi but also the entire armed forces. The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ruled on this matter, leading to the filing of an FIR against Shah. Given the seriousness of the situation, there are calls for his immediate removal from the cabinet and potential imprisonment.
