The discussion focused on strategies to tackle unauthorized constructions, enforce building regulations, and prepare for the upcoming monsoon season. Key priorities included the removal of silt from drainage systems and enhancing sanitation standards. The municipal corporation is set to implement a stringent action plan to identify and address illegal constructions, ensuring accountability among local officials. Strengthening Urban Governance in Delhi

On Thursday, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, Sardar T.S. Sandhu, led a high-level review meeting with the municipal department to discuss a comprehensive action plan aimed at enhancing urban governance, improving civic infrastructure, and bolstering structural safety across the capital. The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the need for a robust strategy to target, prevent, and demolish unauthorized constructions.


He called for strict enforcement of building regulations and directed the municipal department to implement a timely strategy to effectively address unauthorized constructions.


Key Civic Priorities Reviewed

The meeting also reviewed essential civic priorities, including the removal of silt from drainage systems before the monsoon, road and sidewalk repairs for dust control, and enhancing sanitation standards. A plan was devised to regulate and curb illegal constructions, with the municipal corporation set to initiate a high-level, time-bound strategy to identify and seal or demolish all ongoing and existing unauthorized buildings.


Action Plan for Illegal Constructions

The municipal corporation will develop a stringent action plan to identify and take action against illegal residential and commercial vertical extensions that violate approved building blueprints or safety codes. Local engineers, technical staff, and municipal inspection officers will be held directly accountable for any overlooked illegal modifications or ongoing unauthorized constructions.


Discussion on Monsoon Preparedness

During the meeting, various issues were discussed, including silt removal, monsoon preparedness, sanitation and waste management, dust control, and public safety. In anticipation of the upcoming rainy season, the municipality presented its comprehensive monsoon action plan, prioritizing the removal and maintenance of stormwater drainage systems to prevent local silt accumulation and flooding.
