Promoting Walk-to-Work Communities in Delhi

On Wednesday, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, Tarunjeet Singh Sandhu, chaired a meeting with officials from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to discuss the 'Transit-Oriented Development' (TOD) policy. The primary aim of this meeting was to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for 'walk-to-work' communities across the capital. In a post on social media, the LG described this initiative as a "transformative policy," asserting that it would provide a new identity to Delhi's "urban landscape and skyline." He emphasized that the vision includes reducing congestion, improving urban mobility, and expanding affordable housing.

A Vision for Sustainable Urban Growth

The LG highlighted that this initiative would significantly contribute to the development of the national capital, aligning with PM Modi's vision of a 'Developed India' and sustainability. He stated, "I chaired a meeting with @Official_DDA regarding the 'Transit-Oriented Development' (TOD) policy, aimed at advancing the vision of creating 'walk-to-work' communities throughout Delhi. Inspired by the honorable Prime Minister Modi's #ViksitBharat vision, this transformative policy will redefine Delhi's urban landscape and skyline. By promoting higher-density, mixed-use developments around metro and RTS stations, our goal is to alleviate congestion, enhance urban mobility, and expand access to affordable housing. We aim to develop vibrant and integrated station hubs where citizens can live, work, and shop without relying on private vehicles."

Plans for Decentralized Economic Centers

Previously, LG Tarunjeet Singh Sandhu directed the DDA to formulate a comprehensive and time-bound plan to develop Dwarka, Rohini, and Narela as decentralized trade and economic centers, aiming to attract both domestic and international investments. According to this plan, Delhi, particularly its sub-city Dwarka developed by the DDA, is poised to become a preferred destination for both domestic and international investments. This initiative is credited to the combined efforts of Delhi's LG, Sardar T.S. Sandhu, who also serves as the chairman of the DDA. Similar efforts are being made concerning the other two sub-cities, Rohini and Narela.
