Upcoming Increase in Alcohol Prices in Delhi

As the new financial year approaches, residents of Delhi may face higher alcohol prices. The government has announced a 10% increase in license fees for the excise period of 2026-27. This hike will affect various licenses, including those for hotels, clubs, and restaurants.

The Excise, Entertainment, and Luxury Tax Department of the Delhi government has issued an order regarding this fee increase, which will be effective from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027. Following approval from the competent authority, the renewal of licenses in categories L-28/L-28F and L-29/L-29F has been formally sanctioned.

Under the new regulations, the annual license fees for both Indian and foreign liquor will see a 10% rise. This increase in licensing costs is expected to influence the retail prices of alcoholic beverages.

Deadline for License Fee Payment

Additionally, all license holders are required to renew their licenses online through the e-excise portal using their AXD ID. The department has also set a deadline for fee payments. Licensees must pay the original fee by February 28.

If payments are made between March 1 and March 31, an additional 25% fee will apply. Payments made after April 1 will incur a 100% extra charge. Furthermore, the department has made it clear that failure to pay on time may result in the suspension of transport permits or other significant actions.
