New Regulations for DUSU Elections
Delhi University has established regulations for the upcoming Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections scheduled for 2026. A meeting was held on Thursday at the Proctor's office, attended by Proctor Professor Manoj Kumar Singh, DUSU officials, and representatives from various student organizations. Professor Singh provided guidance based on the Delhi High Court and the Lyngdoh Committee's recommendations regarding necessary precautions and rules to be followed during the elections.
A press release clarified that no damage would be inflicted on public property around the campus, and no billboards or banners—whether printed or digital—would be permitted on poles. The university has imposed a complete ban on printed campaign materials; only handmade items will be allowed, and they can only be displayed on the designated 'Wall of Democracy.' Block printing or spray painting on walls is prohibited. Additionally, no flex posters will be allowed on the Delhi Municipal Corporation's (MCD) advertisement boards. If unauthorized displays are observed, the Proctor will notify the MCD Commissioner.
Furthermore, candidates are not allowed to place stickers with their names on any vehicles, including cars, jeeps, buses, auto-rickshaws, or e-rickshaws. Each candidate is permitted to use only five vehicles for campaigning; the use of tractors, JCBs, or animals is not allowed. Vehicles with tinted windows or those without visible license plates are strictly prohibited. Vehicles parked on the Delhi University campus without permission will be fined or removed according to traffic police regulations. Distributing gifts or memorabilia bearing candidates' names is also forbidden. The use of canopies, umbrellas, or similar items with candidates' names on campus is prohibited, and any violation will result in the cancellation of the candidate's nomination.
Professor Singh also emphasized the importance of maintaining order on campus and preventing scheduling conflicts among student groups. Therefore, public meetings must be communicated to the Proctor's office in advance. Only five students are allowed to campaign inside colleges, and only female students can campaign in girls' college hostels.
