Delhi University Elections: ABVP Dominates While Independent Candidate Shines

ABVP's Stronghold in Delhi University Elections

New Delhi: In a significant outcome for the Delhi University Students' Union elections, the ABVP, linked to the RSS, secured three out of four central panel positions. Meanwhile, independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen, who was not granted a ticket by the NSUI, claimed the vice-presidential role.

The Congress-affiliated National Students Union of India (NSUI) faced a disappointing defeat, failing to win any positions despite narrowly losing the president and joint secretary roles.

Shokeen's success as an independent candidate, winning the vice-presidential post by a substantial margin of over 13,700 votes, further complicated the NSUI's performance.

The ABVP's Yash Dabas emerged victorious in the presidential race, garnering 24,576 votes and defeating NSUI's Vijai Shankar Meena by a margin of 2,053 votes. This victory comes amidst heightened youth activism following recent protests and a tragic building collapse that resulted in the deaths of five students.

In the joint secretary election, ABVP's candidate received 16,615 votes, surpassing the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha's candidate, who secured 15,778 votes.

For the secretary position, the ABVP candidate achieved 21,650 votes, while the NSUI candidate managed only 14,869 votes.

This win allows the ABVP to reclaim the president, secretary, and joint secretary roles, which they had also won in 2025. The NSUI, which held the vice-presidential position last year, was unable to secure any posts this time.

Independent candidates like Shokeen and Vishesh Yadav made a notable impact, drawing significant votes away from both the ABVP and NSUI.

Shokeen's victory over ABVP's Ishu Maurya and NSUI's Vir Chatrath was particularly impressive, while Yadav from the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha received 15,778 votes in the joint secretary contest.

Ultimately, ABVP's Lakshya Raj Singh won the joint secretary position with 16,615 votes, while NSUI's Gopal Chaudhary finished third with 15,206 votes.
