Appointment of Election Officials at Delhi University

New Delhi, August 5 - Delhi University has officially announced the appointment of the Chief Election Officer and the Chief Returning Officer for the upcoming student union elections, scheduled to take place in September. According to the notification, Raj Kishore Sharma from the Chemistry Department has been designated as the Chief Election Officer (CEO) for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections for the academic session 2026-27. Additionally, Rajesh Singh, the university librarian, has been appointed as the Chief Returning Officer (CRO).


The notification states that these appointments were made by the Vice-Chancellor, acting as the patron of DUSU, under Section 16 of the DUSU Constitution. These roles will take effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice. This marks the commencement of the annual DUSU election process.


The DUSU elections are among the most talked-about student union elections in the country, featuring prominent student organizations such as the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), National Students' Union of India (NSUI), Students' Federation of India (SFI), and All India Students' Association (AISA) competing for positions. The university is expected to release a detailed election schedule in due course, outlining dates for nominations, withdrawals, voting, and counting.
