Delhi Residents to Experience Relief from Heatwave as Weather Changes

Delhi residents have faced extreme heat recently, but the India Meteorological Department has forecasted a change in weather starting today. With thunderstorms and rain expected from May 28 to May 31, the intense heat may finally ease. The minimum temperature recorded was 28.4 degrees Celsius, while the air quality remains in the 'moderate' category. Weather Update for Delhi-NCR

Residents of Delhi, who have been enduring record-breaking heat and scorching conditions, can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced a shift in weather patterns starting today (Thursday), which is expected to bring significant respite from the intense heat. According to the weather department, thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall are anticipated over the next few days. From May 28 to May 31 (Thursday to Sunday), there is a strong likelihood of heavy winds and rain in Delhi and its surrounding areas.


Temperature and Air Quality in Delhi

On Thursday, the minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 28.4 degrees Celsius, which is 1.8 degrees above the seasonal average. The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 43 degrees Celsius. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) indicated that at 9 AM, the air quality was categorized as 'moderate,' with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 199.

The CPCB defines AQI levels as follows: 0 to 50 is 'good,' 51 to 100 is 'satisfactory,' 101 to 200 is 'moderate,' 201 to 300 is 'poor,' 301 to 400 is 'very poor,' and 401 to 500 is 'severe.'


Record High Temperatures in May

Earlier this week, on Monday, the national capital recorded its hottest night in May in nearly 14 years, with a minimum temperature soaring to 32.4 degrees Celsius, exceeding the seasonal average by 5.7 degrees. The IMD noted that the previous record for this month was set on May 26, 2012, when the minimum temperature reached 32.5 degrees Celsius.


Recent Temperature Trends

The IMD also reported similar conditions earlier this month, with a minimum temperature of 31.9 degrees Celsius recorded on May 21. Specific areas in the city reported varying minimum temperatures: Palam at 30.5 degrees Celsius (3.4 degrees above normal), Lodhi Road at 30 degrees Celsius (5 degrees above normal), Ridge at 30.6 degrees Celsius (4.4 degrees above normal), and Ayanagar at 32 degrees Celsius (5.3 degrees above normal).
