Political Turmoil in Delhi Over Allegations of Luxury

Once again, the political landscape in Delhi is ablaze with controversy surrounding government residences. On Saturday, BJP's prominent leader and former MP Parvesh Verma held a press conference where he launched a scathing personal attack on Arvind Kejriwal, the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Verma labeled Kejriwal as the "Rahman Dacoit of Delhi," asserting that he has constructed a second 'Sheesh Mahal' following the first.

During the press briefing, Verma claimed that the BJP would unveil ‘Sheesh Mahal 2’ and accused Kejriwal of living a luxurious lifestyle, contradicting his earlier claims of simplicity. He stated, “We are going to show you Delhi's Rahman Dacoit and his Sheesh Mahal 2.” Verma further remarked that after losing votes in Delhi, Kejriwal shifted his focus to Punjab, saying, “The voters of Delhi defeated this ‘Rahman Dacoit,’ so he went to Punjab. Bhagwant Mann is troubled.”

Verma alleged that several government residences near Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's home are occupied by AAP leaders, including Kejriwal, former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. He referenced Kejriwal's recent move to a government bungalow at 95 Lodhi Estate, stating, “He has shifted to 95 Lodhi Estate, despite claiming he would live like an ordinary citizen.”

Verma expressed his astonishment at the opulence of the previous 'Sheesh Mahal,' questioning how anyone could sleep in such a lavish home. He presented photographs, claiming they depict Kejriwal's new residence. Additionally, he accused Kejriwal of previously stating he would not take a government house, only to later acquire a bungalow and upgrade it into what the BJP refers to as a “Sheesh Mahal.”
