Significant Security Measures Implemented

A major revelation regarding security arrangements has emerged during the ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. According to the Delhi Police, over 2,500 individuals with criminal backgrounds have infiltrated the protest site, intending to disrupt law and order and attack police with sharp weapons. Following the violence on July 20, the police utilized a Facial Recognition System (FRS) to identify these offenders. In light of the situation's seriousness, the police have registered a total of 15 First Information Reports (FIRs) so far.

FRS Implementation Post-Violence

The FRS was installed at Jantar Mantar after the violent incidents on July 20. Over the subsequent three days—July 21, 22, and 23—more than 2,500 troublemakers were identified, leading to the filing of 15 FIRs by the Delhi Police.

Officials clarified that this surveillance system is not aimed at ordinary protesters but is specifically designed to identify wanted criminals, absconders, habitual offenders, and individuals classified as 'bad characters' (BCs) who may attempt to infiltrate protests and disrupt public order.

Strategic Placement of FRS Units

Four FRS units have been strategically placed at key entry and exit points around the protest site, linked to the Delhi Police database. Officers are actively monitoring this system in real-time, enabling them to quickly verify the identities of any wanted or habitual offenders already recorded in police files.

A police source stated, 'This technology has helped identify over 2,500 individuals with criminal backgrounds so far. It serves as a strong deterrent and assists us in keeping a close watch on those who might misuse protests to create law and order issues.'

Advanced Technology for Enhanced Security

The FRS is equipped with high-resolution cameras capable of capturing facial images from a distance. A senior police officer noted, 'Once a face is captured, it is matched with the Delhi Police database within seconds. If a wanted or absconding suspect is identified, the relevant police unit is immediately alerted to facilitate prompt legal action.'

The police also mentioned that this technology aids in identifying habitual offenders who have repeatedly engaged in criminal activities and are recorded as 'bad characters' in police records. Another officer emphasized, 'The purpose of implementing this system is both to prevent and investigate crimes. It allows us to quickly identify anti-social elements while ensuring that ordinary protesters can participate without any issues.'

Previous Use of FRS by Delhi Police

This is not the first instance of the Delhi Police deploying FRS cameras. Under security protocols, the police have utilized this system during major events such as Republic Day, Independence Day, Holi, Diwali, Eid, Ram Leela celebrations, and various other significant occasions throughout the city.
