Delhi Police Uncovers Shocking Gold Theft by Domestic Worker
Arrest of the Accused Domestic Worker
The Delhi Police have apprehended a woman named Sona, also known as Sonia, in connection with a theft case. This woman worked as a domestic helper and had fortified her home with dangerous dogs, creating a 'dog fortress' to deter police entry.
How the Case Came to Light
In April, the Delhi Police received a complaint regarding the theft of gold by a domestic worker in Shalimar Bagh. Following this, they registered a case and initiated an investigation. Utilizing CCTV footage and technical surveillance, the police were able to track down the woman and arrest her. The accused had pawned the stolen gold jewelry to secure a loan of approximately 5 lakh.
Discovery of Multiple Gold Loan Accounts
Investigations revealed that the accused had 15 gold loan accounts. Nearly 2 kilograms of gold jewelry were traced across various banks and finance companies. Additionally, the police recovered 1 lakh in cash from her possession. The woman has a history of involvement in several criminal activities.
The Canine Defense Strategy
To evade the police, she employed a unique method for executing her thefts. She would pawn the stolen jewelry at banks to obtain loans while keeping the police at bay with 15 ferocious dogs. The presence of these dogs, including pit bulls and hybrid breeds, instilled fear in the neighborhood, preventing anyone from approaching her home.
Freezing of Bank Accounts
During the police raid, approximately 2 kilograms of gold jewelry were discovered in her accounts at Muthoot FinCorp, Muthoot Finance Bank, and Federal Bank. Currently, all her bank accounts have been frozen, and various agencies are working to recover the remaining stolen items.
