Delhi Police Uncovers Interstate Arms Smuggling Ring, Eight Arrested

Major Arms Smuggling Operation Disrupted

New Delhi, August 4 - The special unit of the Delhi Police has successfully dismantled an interstate arms trafficking network, leading to the arrest of eight alleged smugglers and the seizure of 18 firearms along with ammunition. A senior police official reported on Tuesday that the suspects were linked to a gang that procured semi-automatic pistols and country-made firearms from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, selling them to criminals in Delhi-NCR and surrounding regions.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) N. Chaitanya, the arrested individuals have been identified as Harish Chandra (24), Preetpal Singh (24), Sheeshpal Singh alias Yash Chaudhary (26), Kuldeep Sagar (20), Agesh Kumar (25), Noor Mohammad alias Tasleem (36), Mohammad Shan (19), and Vikram Singh (36).

The gang utilized social media applications, 'virtual numbers', and online fake identities to coordinate with both smugglers and buyers. The DCP stated that the operation was based on intelligence regarding illegal arms trafficking in Delhi-NCR, which involved weeks of investigation before the suspects were apprehended and the firearms were recovered.

During the operation, police confiscated 12 semi-automatic pistols, five country-made firearms, one revolver, 10 additional magazines, five restricted 9mm cartridges, another caliber cartridge, and a sickle.

The investigation commenced on July 5 when Harish Chandra was caught with eight semi-automatic pistols and eight magazines that had been smuggled from Madhya Pradesh. During questioning, he revealed that he and his brother were transporting illegal weapons under the direction of the gang's alleged leader, Sheeshpal Singh. Based on this information, police arrested Preetpal Singh and later apprehended Sheeshpal in Ballabgarh, Haryana, where another illegal pistol was found at his rented accommodation.

According to police reports, Sheeshpal had been involved in illegal arms trafficking for nearly three years, establishing a network across multiple states that included suppliers, smugglers, and transporters. The statement noted that Vikram Singh was arrested on July 15, with five 9mm cartridges recovered from his residence. Other suspects were also captured, with firearms found in their possession.
