Gang Exposed for Cheating in Government Recruitment Exams

New Delhi, August 7 - The Delhi Police has dismantled an inter-state gang that facilitated cheating in government recruitment exams using nano earbuds, Bluetooth devices, and specially modified mobile phones. The alleged leader of this operation is a firefighter employed by the Chandigarh Fire Department, as reported by the police on Friday.

Through this cheating network, candidates were able to obtain answers during online government exams by utilizing artificial intelligence tools similar to 'ChatGPT'. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) H. V. Swami from West Delhi stated that seven individuals have been arrested so far, and the investigation is ongoing. He mentioned that the gang charged candidates up to 1.2 million rupees and provided modified electronic devices that allowed examinees to secretly receive answers from outside the examination hall.

The Central Sanskrit University filed a complaint on July 26, alleging the use of unfair means during the Junior Clerk (LDC) recruitment exam held at the Central School in Janakpuri, Delhi, which led to the discovery of the gang. During a search at the exam center, officials recovered a specially designed mobile phone from a female candidate, while another candidate, Hemant, was found with a Bluetooth device containing a SIM card and hidden nano earbuds. A total of 213 candidates participated in this exam for six positions.

Based on the complaint, the Delhi Police registered a case and arrested both candidates. During interrogation, Hemant revealed that his brother Rinku had arranged the Bluetooth device and SIM card through an acquaintance named Virendra for 1.2 million rupees, enabling him to receive answers from outside the exam hall. Following this revelation, a team apprehended Rinku and Virendra.

The female candidate informed the police that her friend Sunny had provided her with a specially modified mobile phone, Bluetooth device, SIM card, and nano earbuds after a deal worth 1 million rupees. The investigation led the police to Sunny, who implicated Deepak as a collaborator in the gang. According to police, Deepak, who has completed 12th grade, allegedly arranged the electronic devices and coordinated the transmission of answers during the exams.

Subsequently, the police arrested Deepak, who disclosed that he was operating under the instructions of the suspected leader, Sonu Kumar, also known as Sonu Mann. They reported that Sonu was apprehended in Haryana's Charkhi Dadri while allegedly facilitating cheating in another government recruitment exam. Police confirmed that Sonu is employed as a firefighter in the Chandigarh Fire Department.

The statement indicated that during his arrest, the team seized a tablet linked to a foreign account, specially modified mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, nano earbuds, SIM cards, and other electronic devices containing incriminating documents. Swami noted that the alleged leader, Sonu Kumar, had converted a car into a 'mobile control room' from which he assisted candidates taking exams remotely. The vehicle was equipped with a complete technical setup, including various electronic devices and internet connectivity, allowing him to solve questions visible on candidates' computer screens.

Officials stated that candidates were instructed to download two different apps onto their devices before the exam. One app allowed Sonu to view the candidates' 'live exam screen', while the other was a spy camera-based app capable of recording video and capturing images even when the device screen was inactive. Sonu reportedly charged each candidate between 1 million to 1.2 million rupees for this service.

The police revealed that several beneficiaries secured jobs in prestigious government institutions, including one of the arrested individuals, Sunny, who works as a lab attendant at Lady Irwin College, Delhi University. Authorities have begun notifying the relevant institutions to initiate appropriate action against those who allegedly obtained jobs through fraudulent means.
