Arrest of Ruby Jain

The Delhi Police have apprehended Ruby Jain, who is accused of racially abusing three women from Northeast India residing in Malviya Nagar. Authorities confirmed this information on Wednesday, stating that an officer of ACP rank is overseeing the investigation, and appropriate actions will be taken against the accused.


Details of the Case

In addition, officials revealed that the FIR filed at the Malviya Nagar police station includes relevant provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The Delhi Police announced, "Following the addition of the SC-ST Act, the investigation has been assigned to an ACP-rank officer, with senior officials closely monitoring the situation." Furthermore, the role of Jain's husband, Harsh Singh, is also under scrutiny.


Incident Background

The dispute between Jain and the three women from Arunachal Pradesh erupted on February 20 over repair work in their rented home. Videos of the altercation have gone viral, showing Jain verbally abusing the women. The police are currently examining these videos.


Singh stated that the couple is cooperating with the police and described the incident as a result of anger. In an interview with a news agency, he expressed that they feel embarrassed but urged people to listen to their side and avoid media trials.


He added, "I am receiving edited obscene images of my mother on social media; our family and profession should not be dragged into this... I personally apologize to all individuals from the Northeast."


Condemnation from Officials

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the incident, asserting that the Delhi Police must take immediate action. He mentioned that his office is in contact with the three women and stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, a special task force has been established to address this matter.


Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu also labeled the incident as 'shameful' and indicated that he has spoken with senior officials of the Delhi Police. He posted on X (formerly Twitter), "We stand firmly with our three sisters, and their safety, dignity, and justice are our top priorities."
