Delhi Police Arrests Additional Suspects in Stone-Pelting Incident
Recent Arrests Linked to Turkmen Gate Violence
The Delhi Police have apprehended three more individuals in connection with the stone-pelting incident that occurred at Turkmen Gate. This unrest followed a demolition operation conducted by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) near a mosque. With these latest arrests, the total number of individuals detained in this case has risen to 16. The police identified the arrested suspects as Mohammad Naveed, Mohammad Faiz, and Mohammad Ubaidullah. Authorities have also confirmed that they have identified 30 individuals allegedly involved in the violence.
Investigation and Evidence Collection
The identification of suspects was aided by CCTV footage and videos circulating on social media. Police teams have conducted raids at various locations to apprehend the remaining suspects. A police body camera video captured moments prior to the stone-pelting incident during the demolition. Additional videos from body cameras are being reviewed, which may contain footage of the rioters.
Political Figure Summoned for Inquiry
In a related development, the Delhi Police is set to summon Mohibullah Nadvi, a Member of Parliament from the Samajwadi Party, to participate in the investigation. Nadvi was present at the scene shortly before the violence erupted. Despite repeated requests from senior officials, he remained in the vicinity during the incident. Following directives from the Delhi High Court, a demolition operation was carried out near Turkmen Gate, close to Ramleela Maidan. The police stated that this action was taken on the morning of January 7 after several coordination meetings with members of the Aman Committee and local stakeholders to maintain peace.
