Delhi Police Arrest Man with Illegal Firearm During Routine Patrol

Police Operation Leads to Arrest in Shahdara

New Delhi, August 8: A 30-year-old individual was apprehended by the Farsh Bazar Police in the Shahdara district of Delhi for possessing an unlicensed Beretta pistol, along with four live cartridges and two magazines, as reported by officials on Saturday.

The police stated that the arrest occurred on August 6 during a routine patrol conducted by a specialized team from the Farsh Bazar Police Station, aimed at preventing crime and illegal activities in the vicinity.

While patrolling near New Sadak Road, adjacent to Guru Gobind Singh University, the police received credible information indicating that a man with an illegal firearm would be traveling in a white car from the Vivek Vihar area towards Bhikam Singh Colony between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

In response to this tip-off, the police established a strategic checkpoint at the specified location and began monitoring the vehicles in the area.

At the designated time, a white vehicle approaching from Vivek Vihar was stopped by the police. Upon conducting a personal search of the driver, they discovered an illegal Beretta pistol, reportedly manufactured in Italy.

A thorough search of the vehicle revealed two additional live cartridges and two magazines hidden in the dashboard. In total, four live .32-caliber cartridges and two magazines were confiscated along with the firearm.

The suspect was identified as Raj Singh, residing in B-2 Block, Gali No. 26, Harsh Vihar, Delhi. He is 30 years old.

Following the recovery, an FIR was registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Farsh Bazar Police Station, with the case number 283/26 dated August 6.

During questioning, the accused allegedly claimed that he possessed the firearm as a hobby and for display purposes. Police officials are continuing their investigation to determine the weapon's origin, the circumstances of its acquisition, and any potential connections to illegal arms trafficking or other criminal activities.

This operation was executed under the guidance of the Station House Officer (SHO) of Farsh Bazar Police Station, with oversight from the ACP of Shahdara and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Shahdara.

The police team involved in this operation included Head Constables Avneesh, who is the case's investigating officer, along with Sachin, Amit Kumar, Diwakar, and Amit Malik, as well as Constables Tarun and Ashish.

Officials emphasized that the successful capture of the suspect underscores the vigilance and proactive measures taken by the Farsh Bazar police during their patrols. This timely intervention not only averted the potential misuse of the illegal firearm but also allowed investigators to delve into the weapon's source and supply chain.
