Enhanced Security Measures for Independence Day
In preparation for the Independence Day celebrations, Delhi has been placed on high alert. Intelligence reports indicate potential protests and threats from Pakistan-backed terrorist organizations and Khalistani groups. Security measures have been significantly intensified across the capital, particularly around the Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on August 15. Authorities anticipate around 24,000 guests will attend the event. Approximately 12,000 personnel from the Delhi Police will be deployed to ensure security during the celebrations, supported by various security and intelligence agencies monitoring the venue and surrounding areas.
Advanced Surveillance Technology Implemented
As part of the stringent security arrangements, over 1,000 artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled CCTV cameras have been installed around the Red Fort and its vicinity. The AI-powered video analytics system will provide real-time surveillance, assist in crowd management, and help security personnel identify suspicious activities. Authorities have also established a comprehensive access control system and anti-sabotage checks to secure the event site. The security measures will include Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), SWAT commandos, snipers, bomb disposal squads, and dog units. Security personnel will conduct thorough vehicle inspections and maintain constant patrols in the security zone. Additionally, security has been heightened at key government buildings, sensitive locations, bus terminals, and railway stations throughout the capital. Officials have stated that a multi-layered security plan has been developed based on intelligence to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the Independence Day celebrations.
Crucial Security Coordination Meeting
Prior to the Independence Day event, the Delhi Police convened an inter-state coordination meeting with senior police officials from 11 states and union territories to finalize the joint security plan and enhance the process of sharing intelligence. This meeting, chaired by Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar at the police headquarters, included senior officials from Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Chandigarh. Senior officials from central intelligence and enforcement agencies also participated in the discussions.
