Delhi Metro Expansion Set to Transform Connectivity and Promote Eco-Friendly Transport
Delhi Metro's Revolutionary Expansion Announced
On Saturday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta of Delhi expressed that the ongoing expansion of the Delhi Metro network will bring about a transformative change in connectivity within the national capital and enhance the use of clean public transportation. She announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two new metro corridors on March 8 and lay the foundation for three additional corridors.
According to Gupta, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur section of the Pink Line and the Dipali Chowk-Majlis Park section of the Magenta Line. With the opening of the Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur section, the total length of the Pink Line will reach approximately 71.56 kilometers, making Delhi the first city in the country to have a fully operational "Ring Metro." This corridor is expected to enhance connectivity between northeastern and northwestern Delhi, significantly reducing travel time across various parts of the city.
Gupta further mentioned that the Dipali Chowk-Majlis Park corridor is an extension of the Magenta Line, increasing its total length to around 49 kilometers. This extension will connect several residential and commercial areas more effectively to the metro network. Additionally, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation for three new metro corridors under Phase-V (A), which include the Ramakrishna Ashram Marg-Indraprastha Central Vista corridor, the Aerocity-Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1 corridor, and the Tughlakabad-Kalindi Kunj corridor.
Once completed, these corridors will significantly enhance connectivity between Delhi's administrative, residential, and commercial sectors, providing quick access to the airport. Gupta noted that these projects will benefit not only Delhi but also commuters from the National Capital Region (NCR). Residents of Faridabad and Ballabgarh will be able to reach Tughlakabad via the Violet Line and then travel directly to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1 through the Golden Line. Similarly, passengers from Noida will be able to reach Kalindi Kunj via the Magenta Line and then easily travel to the airport and South Delhi through the Golden Line.
