Delhi Launches 'Atal Canteen' Initiative to Eliminate Hunger
No More Hungry Nights in Delhi
In a significant move to combat hunger, the Delhi government has inaugurated the 'Atal Canteen' initiative on the occasion of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's 101st birthday. This program aims to provide nutritious and dignified meals to the underprivileged and laborers for just 5 rupees.
Service Available at 100 Locations
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the first 100 Atal Canteens across various areas in Delhi today. As of now, 45 canteens, including those in RK Puram, Jungpura, Shalimar Bagh, Greater Kailash, Rajouri Garden, Narela, and Bawana, have commenced operations. The remaining 55 canteens are expected to be fully operational in the coming days.
Canteen Hours and Menu
These canteens are designed to ensure that working laborers can access meals at convenient times. Lunch will be served from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, while dinner will be available from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
What’s on the Plate?
Each meal will consist of dal, rice, chapati, a seasonal vegetable, and pickle.
Digital and Transparent System
To prevent corruption and manage crowds effectively, the Delhi government has implemented modern technology in this initiative. Instead of manual coupons, a digital token system will be used for meal collection.
All centers will be equipped with CCTV cameras, which will be monitored in real-time through the digital platform of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board.
Chief Minister's Statement
The Chief Minister stated that the Atal Canteen will become the soul of Delhi. The goal is to ensure that even the lowest-income families in the city receive meals with dignity.
