Delhi High Court Sees Legal Action from Turkish Firm Over Security Clearance Revocation
Legal Challenge by Celebi Airport Services
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court is set to hear a case filed by Celebi Airport Services India Pvt Ltd against the recent revocation of its security clearance by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), citing national security concerns.
This decision came shortly after Turkey expressed support for Pakistan and criticized India's military actions against terrorist camps within its borders.
A legal representative confirmed that the petition has been submitted and is expected to be scheduled for a hearing next week.
Celebi has been a player in the Indian aviation industry for over 15 years, employing more than 10,000 individuals and providing services at nine airports across the country.
In its official order, BCAS stated, "... the security clearance for Celebi Airport Services India Pvt Ltd is hereby revoked with immediate effect in the interest of national security."
The company had initially received its security clearance in November 2022.
Celebi manages approximately 58,000 flights and handles around 540,000 tonnes of cargo annually in India, as per its official website.
Its operations span major airports including Mumbai, Delhi, Cochin, Kannur, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Goa, Ahmedabad, and Chennai.
Notably, Pakistan has utilized Turkish drones extensively during its military engagements with India.
In a prior statement, Celebi Aviation India emphasized its adherence to Indian aviation standards, national security protocols, and tax laws, asserting its commitment to transparency.
The company dismissed all claims regarding its ownership and operational practices in India, reiterating its dedication to the Indian aviation sector.
Additionally, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) announced the termination of its partnership with Celebi entities responsible for ground handling and cargo services at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Celebi Airport Services India Pvt Ltd and Celebi Delhi Cargo Terminal Management India Pvt Ltd were tasked with managing ground handling and cargo terminal operations, respectively.
