Delhi High Court Denies Urgent Hearing for Indian Youth Congress Protest

The Delhi High Court has turned down an urgent hearing request from the Indian Youth Congress, which sought permission to protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Jantar Mantar. The court has scheduled the hearing for Monday, despite the IYC's claims of urgency regarding alleged irregularities in the SIR exercise. The IYC is challenging the Delhi Police's refusal to allow the protest. This decision raises questions about the court's stance on political protests and the rights of organizations to voice their concerns.

Court Decision on IYC Protest Request

New Delhi: On Friday, the Delhi High Court declined to expedite a hearing regarding a request from the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) to hold a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Jantar Mantar, citing alleged discrepancies in the SIR exercise.

The request was initially brought up on Thursday, and the court agreed to schedule it for Friday. However, when it was not listed for that day, the IYC's counsel requested that it be addressed immediately.

Despite the counsel's insistence, the bench, consisting of Acting Chief Justice Nitin Wasudeo Sambre and Justice Sanjay Sharma, opted not to list the case for Friday.

"What is the urgency today? We will hear it on Monday. It will be scheduled for Monday," the bench stated.

The IYC is contesting the Delhi Police's decision to deny them permission for the protest at Jantar Mantar.
