Delhi Government Reviews Study on Rising Pollution in Yamuna River

The Delhi government has initiated a review of a study revealing alarming levels of microplastics and pollutants in the Yamuna River. With a focus on implementing technology-driven solutions, officials aim to tackle the rising pollution caused by untreated sewage and industrial waste. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to address these environmental challenges. This proactive approach seeks to mitigate the impact of pollution on the river and its surroundings, ensuring a cleaner and healthier ecosystem for the community.

Government Action on Yamuna River Pollution

On Tuesday, the Delhi government evaluated a study conducted by TERI, which highlighted the increasing presence of microplastics, foam, and chemical pollutants in the Yamuna River. The government has instructed various departments to implement timely and technology-driven interventions to combat pollution.

The study indicates that untreated sewage, industrial waste, and solid waste contribute to elevated levels of ammonia, organic contamination, and microplastics, leading to frequent foam formation, particularly near industrial areas and drains.

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa remarked, 'The findings shared by TERI provide us with a framework to address microplastics, foam, and other pollutants through coordinated actions in the areas of sewage management, industrial practices, solid waste, and public behavior.'
