Delhi's Tourism Minister Introduces Repeal Bill

New Delhi, August 7 - During the monsoon session of the assembly on Friday, Delhi's Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra introduced a bill aimed at repealing the existing 'Bed and Breakfast Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2007'. This legislative move comes in the wake of a tragic fire incident in Malviya Nagar that occurred in June, resulting in the deaths of 21 individuals, including 11 foreign nationals.

The establishment in question is alleged to have been operating without the necessary permits. Mishra presented the 'Delhi Bed and Breakfast Establishments (Repeal) Bill, 2026' for discussion in the assembly. Officials indicated that the bill is expected to be passed on Monday.

Following the Malviya Nagar fire, Mishra announced the withdrawal of the 'Incredible India' Bed and Breakfast Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2007, along with its amendments from 2010 and 2021. As of 2023, over 2,200 rooms across 432 properties have been registered under the Delhi government's Bed and Breakfast (B&B) scheme.
