Delhi Government Launches Water Ambassador Initiative to Combat Heat

In response to soaring temperatures, the Delhi government is launching a Water Ambassador initiative under the Jaldoot scheme, deploying ambassadors at 1,525 bus stops to distribute drinking water. This program aims to provide relief from the heat and is part of a broader summer action plan that includes installing water coolers and other cooling measures. The initiative reflects the government's commitment to ensuring public health and safety during extreme weather conditions. Learn more about how these efforts will help residents cope with the rising mercury levels.

Introduction of Water Ambassadors in Delhi

As temperatures rise, the Delhi government is set to deploy Water Ambassadors at bus stops across the city as part of the Delhi Jaldoot initiative. Approximately 1,525 bus stops will feature this service, aimed at providing residents with relief from the heat.

Each Water Ambassador will be equipped with a large container to distribute drinking water to those passing by. This initiative is designed to ensure access to clean drinking water during the hot months, aligning with the government's summer action plan.

Additional Measures for Heat Relief

Alongside the Water Ambassador program, plans are underway to install water coolers at select locations. E-tenders are being issued for a pilot project that will see water coolers set up at 25 chosen sites, with additional arrangements for water at 25 bus depots.

In April, the Delhi government also introduced its Heat Action Plan 2025, which emphasizes not only emergency responses but also proactive measures such as installing cooling shelters, shading structures, and dedicated hospital wards to mitigate the effects of extreme heat.
