New Campaign for a Beggar-Free Delhi

The Delhi government is set to launch the 'Child Beggar-Free Delhi' initiative aimed at ensuring the safety of children found begging in public areas and major intersections. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced this plan recently.

In a video shared on social media, Rekha mentioned that the campaign will be implemented across 13 districts of the national capital, focusing on providing a secure future for children who are forced to beg.

She clarified that the government will not forcibly remove these children but will collaborate with the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) and various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to counsel their families, address their challenges, and offer better alternatives. Rekha emphasized, “This initiative will identify and expose organized gangs that exploit children for begging.” She also encouraged the public to share their opinions and suggestions regarding the campaign.

OP Vyas, the chairman of DCPCR, stated that the campaign is expected to commence around Independence Day, following consideration of public feedback.
