This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. This subsidy will be in addition to the ₹78,000 provided under the central government's PM Surya Ghar scheme, bringing the total financial assistance for a 3 kW solar system in Delhi to ₹1.08 lakh.

State Top-Up Under 'PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme'

The Delhi government has launched a scheme called 'PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana State Top-Up', aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the central initiative. Under this scheme, the state government will offer a maximum additional subsidy of ₹30,000 at a rate of ₹10,000 per kilowatt. This will enable residents of Delhi to install solar panels without any upfront costs, potentially saving an average of ₹4,200 on their monthly electricity bills.

Financial Assistance and Easy Loan Options

To facilitate the installation of solar panels, the Delhi government has partnered with banks and financial institutions to provide accessible loan options for the remaining amount (approximately ₹90,000). This initiative is particularly beneficial for middle-class families struggling with rising electricity costs, allowing them to install solar panels without initial investment.
