Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Toll Hike: What Travelers Need to Know
Significant Toll Increases on Delhi-Dehradun Expressway
New Delhi: The highly anticipated Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, designed to reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun, is now set to impact the wallets of everyday travelers. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a significant increase in toll rates at the Chamari Khera toll plaza in Saharanpur. These new rates took effect on April 1, 2026.
With the implementation of these new toll rates, traveling has become considerably more expensive for various vehicle categories. Under the revised structure, car and jeep drivers will now pay ₹85 instead of the previous ₹35, while light commercial vehicles will see their toll rise from ₹55 to ₹145. Similarly, the toll for buses and trucks has increased from ₹115 to ₹300, three-wheeler vehicles from ₹130 to ₹330, heavy vehicles from ₹185 to ₹475, and extremely heavy vehicles will now be charged ₹575 instead of ₹220.
PM Modi's Inauguration Expected
The 212-kilometer expressway is fully constructed and is anticipated to be officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi around mid-April 2026. This inauguration will mark the opening of the expressway to the public, which is expected to not only boost tourism but also significantly enhance commercial activities in the region.
Travel Time Reduced to 2.5 Hours
The construction of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway has been successfully completed, and it is now awaiting formal inauguration, likely to be conducted by Prime Minister Modi in April. Once operational, this modern route will allow travelers to cover the 212 kilometers in just 2.5 hours, saving valuable time for commuters. To ensure safety and smooth traffic flow, speed limits have been set on the expressway, allowing cars to travel at a maximum speed of 100 km/h, heavy vehicles at 80 km/h, and two-wheelers at 60 km/h. It will be opened to the public immediately following the inauguration.
