Introduction of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway

Travelers between Delhi and Dehradun can now rejoice as the long-awaited Delhi-Dehradun Expressway has officially opened. This new route significantly simplifies and accelerates the journey between the two cities.

Inauguration by the Prime Minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this project, during which he also inspected the wildlife corridor in Saharanpur and offered prayers at the Dat Kali Temple near Dehradun.

Travel Time Reduction

With the launch of this expressway, the travel duration from Delhi to Dehradun is expected to decrease from six hours to approximately two and a half hours. The route traverses through Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, enhancing regional connectivity and promoting tourism.

Project Overview and Cost

Initiated in 2021, this project was developed at an estimated cost of ₹11,800 crores. The foundation stone was laid by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Previous Openings and Current Status

A segment of this expressway, approximately 32 kilometers long, was previously opened to the public, connecting Delhi to Baghpat. The full route's opening now makes travel even more convenient.

Infrastructure Features

The project includes over 100 underpasses and several railway overbridges. It connects with other major expressways and key roads, which is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion.

Wildlife Protection Measures

Notably, the expressway features a specially designed wildlife corridor to ensure the safety of animals. A 12-kilometer elevated section has been constructed in the Rajaji National Park area to prevent disruption to wildlife movement, including underpasses and tunnels for elephants and other animals.

Phased Completion and Traffic Management

The project was completed in four phases, with roads ranging from four to twelve lanes in different sections. Additionally, a modern traffic management system has been implemented to enhance road safety and traffic control.
