A court in Delhi has directed that charges be framed against Nitin Tyagi, a former legislator from the Aam Aadmi Party, in connection with a case involving harassment of employees from a private construction firm in 2019.

Tyagi and his associates are accused of assaulting workers who were engaged in restoration and rehabilitation efforts in the floodplain of the Yamuna River on November 29, 2019.

In an order issued on January 13, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal instructed that charges be established against the former MLA under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 427 (mischief causing damage), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), and 34 (common intention). However, the court has absolved him of any charges related to causing harm to government officials, assault, or the use of criminal force.
